HARMONY PARKING LOT

This project in Chicago's North Lawndale neighborhood was a collaborative urban planning initiative providing a new shared parking lot for Harmony Community Church and Lawndale Christian Health Center.  The lot provides 72 new spaces and utilizes permeable pavers and on-site storm water management.  A variety of plantings in the design soften the impact of the hardscape, including an existing mature Silver Maple tree that was preserved.  New Oak, Pear, Honey Locust and Gingko trees, and a variety of shrubs and perennials including flowering quince and lilac, salvia and ornamental grasses were provided for year-round visual interest.

The Gingko tree is considered a "living fossil" dating back, some say, 150 million years.
